How to Use the Member Portal
« on: March 10, 2020, 08:29:13 AM »
The Member Portal (MP) is a new CWoT feature that gives each registered member a headquarters of their own to work from. Inside the MP you will find a lot of information, tools and things to click on that may become overwhelming. This post will show you the basics of the MP and how to use it properly.

When you create an account on the forum a new page is made specifically for you. This page, called the Member Portal (MP for short), is linked to in the forum navigation menu and from the main page of the website. You will need to be logged in to use the MP.

The first time you visit the MP it will be fairly blank. The top bar will show you a "motivational" message area that will welcome you back to the MP and give you a little uplifting message to start your day with.

Below this are three item boxes. The left most box shows you that you are logged in with your forum avatar and link to your profile page. You will also be able to see your PM inbox and if there are any new messages.

To the far right is the Member Only Links. Here you have direct access to the forum (new tab), and access to your Member Notepad.

The notepad is a small file that allows you to type notes to yourself that you can keep as long as you need. The notepad will travel with you, as well, so you can use it on each level (more on that in a minute).

The next button is the Help Tools pop up. This is a quick tool access pop up with links to popular riddle solving tool websites and popular search engines.

Below that you have the Progress Tools pop up button. This is where you will go when you need to reset your entire solving progress (rare) or update your version of the MP should a newer version get released. With any luck, you won't need to use this link too often.

Finally, there is a donation button. In the past, donations were handled through the forum with 2nd and 3rd party software. Today, those methods are insecure and outdated, so I have opted not to use them. Instead, if you choose to help out ACWoT with monetary or miscellaneous donations, the links to do so will be in this pop up.

The middle box "Choose Your Adventure" allows you to select the trail levels you wish to see. Each Trail has it's own tab where the levels are presented. As you progress through the trails, new opportunities, such as side quests or level progress reward trails will open up. Check the various tabs often to see if you have gained access to a new level or trail.

Below the middle bar is the level area. Here you will see every level available on ACWoT. If you have successfully beaten a level, it will appear with a check mark next to it and a link to the level's main page will appear. This allows you to easily return to any level at any time.

Note that the level links open in the same window as the MP. So, if you want to keep the MP open, you will need to right-click the link and choose "open in a new tab/window" through your browser context menu.

Below the level list is the forum information. You will be able to quickly see if any of your friends are logged in, get the latest news and updates and see a tally of the basic forum stats.

I have said it many times, but I will say it again here. There will NEVER be a requirement to join the ACWOT forum, or create a MP for yourself if you do not wish to do so (Though, why not? Both are free!). As such, I will never hide level solving hints inside the MP. You can save yourself a lot of time by not worrying about the various source codes and scripts used in the MP as there will not be anything for you to find in there.

Finally, let's cover the MP from a level solving aspect. When you visit each level, you will find a footer bar at the bottom of every page. If you are not logged in, you will have the option to log in or register at any time.

If you are logged in you will see your forum profile avatar and links to your profile and messages.

The MP links (minus the progress tools) are also here. You can open the help tools at any time, or access your notepad. Anything you save in the notepad on a level page will be available when you return to the MP, check in from your phone or tablet, or even if you use another computer.

NOTE: The Notepad is just a simple help tool. It is HIGHLY recommended that you save your notes to your computer hard drive in a separate file from time to time. If the notes become corrupted, there is a glitch, or you press delete on accident, the notes will be gone FOREVER. There is no way to get them back, ever. They are only stored locally and not backed up or database driven. Use the notepad as often as you want, for whatever you want. Just make sure you make a local back up for yourself on a regular basis.  :high5er:

If you have any further questions about the MP or its features, just ask a member of the ACWoT Team. We will be happy to assist you.  :wiggle:
